Fastpitch Fastball

Fastpitch Fastball

This is a site to provide memoires of my Fastball career.
I was born Cornelius J, Friesen,in the Village of Neuanlage,Sask,Canada

Actually the birth certificate says;Sec,23.Tp. 40, Rge. 4 W.3 as the birthplace.
We had a mixed farm, and besides chores, school and church,we enjoyed sports and music. The sports we played were soccer, hockey and fastball. We all had our own little hobbies, wood carving, perhaps whitling would more aptly describe it.We also mabe our ownthings to do ,like tire riding, have our own play farm and grew our own little crops!
Singing was a big part of family in the early years, mother was a wonderful singer and my sisters, could all hold a good tune!Helen and Susie sang a lot as solists and in choirs,as did my brothers John and Pete.Later I would join in as well,I always had to recite poetry, playing rattle bones and singing,, uncle Jake was the fidler in the family, and he taught me about music rythum, however,I always thought about ball!I guess Im a guitar playing ball player with rythum,ha ha!!!
The name was an issue,at least a dozen or so C.Friesens in the area,so I changed to Cornie, then Corney, finally to Neil, but the media liked to call me, Red or Big Red,hence the name of my web page. Welcome,I hope that you enjoy this and I will be updating a lot, as this site is permenantly under construction! This is a learning experience, so any suggestions would be appreciated!!

High Valley Mennonites

Spontaneity

There was plenty of that sort of contrast last night, delivered with surprising spontaneity and sincerity — no joke so corny to make you groan, no moving moment so maudlin to make you gag. That makes several fine lines that Doc Walker smoothly walks, or, anyway, drives.

Hopefully the opening act High Valley won’t get corrupted by the Nashvillian success that seems to be coming their way. This group is a diamond in the rough.

With a strong mandolin and three-way Soggy Bottom Boys vocals leading the way, this trio of Mennonite farming brothers from La Crete, 855 km northwest of Edmonton, is the real country deal — how can you not be when the nearest Wal-Mart is five hours away?

They sang of the joys of never forgetting where you come from, of their own unique vehicular metaphors — in this case, a harvesting combine — and tugged heartstrings, with a song about their dad who never said “I love you.”

They also sang I Want It That Way by the Backstreet Boys to a women they dragged on stage — in German. You don’t hear that every day.

How refreshing: Another promising Canadian country band that isn’t the next Rascal Flatts.
